Oscar Wilde...

Right now I am reading Oscar Wilde 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and its amazing I love the way he writes.

His perceptions of his surroundings and descriptions of emotions is so beautifully put, he is totally out there and I Love it.

"The quivering, ardent sunlight showed him the lines of cruelty round the mouth as clearly as if he had been looking into a mirror after he had done some dreadful thing."
- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray Ch. 7

Beautifull...

Snow and Prayer in Coventry..

Above are images of the snow that, we were gifted with on Saturday, waiting for the bus to go to work, was not a happy time even with my trusty multi-coloured wellies and Coventry Prayer house, which I visited for the first time this week, is so so so good. I will be going again this week. Google it if you want to go, its flippin awesome.

Old school Teaching..

This morning wanting to put some praise music on and have a bit of time in worship. (usually I grab my guitar but didnt feel like strumming, wanted to be able to throw my arms in there air like a mad women.)

I looked at my Ipod and just saw Hillsongs back catalogue and few random praise albums (the new Chris Tomlin is in there 'And if our God is for us' its brilliant.) But I wanted something different, with passion and truth.

When I rembered this CD we had in the shop where I work (I work in a Christian Bookshop, which also sells music.) It was a CD of really old school hymns, when I first saw this a few years ago, it proper scared me. I could'nt relate to any of the songs at all, and it just reminded me of Songs of Praise on TV. So I found it on the internet and took a few of the songs and put them into Youtube, and I came across these lyrics below.

Now I don't know about you, but I sometimes feel like when Paul said 'I am the Cheif of Sinners' I feel like saying to him 'Dude, you was, now I think you'll find, that trophy belongs to me' But then you sing these lyrics and you are reminded of Gods salvation work. And the chain of shame and guilt seems to not stick and slip right off..

So this morning I find myself in my Kitchen Singing/shouting these words out, much to the delight of the builders next door. ( Couldnt give a monkeys) And being happy that the words below are true and for me and you..

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Its amazing how you change as you grow as a Christian. I might even watch Songs of Praise soon....Nah probably not. (Still have some more growing to do yet.)

But old school church definately has some things to teach me...

We Serve a great God.

A word of truth to you from me x

12 And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you, just as it does from us to you. 2 Thessalonians 3: 12

15 Here's a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. I'm proof - Public Sinner Number One - 16 of someone who could never have made it apart from sheer mercy. 1 Timothy 1 :15

Not matter what you have done or are in, this is true to you today, aint it great....

God Loves ya!

My Library. (one day)

I saw this image and thought Wow. The caption said from Stockholm public Libray, but I am not sure if it actually is or was just a design for the future remodelling of the building.

Either way I love the picture.

Food made with love

Friday night, me and my friend Lynn took ourselves off to an establishment called 'Habibi'. A special restaurant in Coventry. I have wanted to go for ages, with its crazy Arabic food, plus it has won a few local food awards, so I wanted to check it out.

I love the cushions, candels, crazy tea and mad food they do. Habibi means 'with love' in Arabic, and they really did treat us well, before we knew we had been in there 3 hours still drinking tea and loungeing on the huge floor cushions.

Above is a few pictures of the food my favourite was the lamb, closely followed by the chicken and hommous. Ummmmm

A quick peep !

Its that time of year, that when I get off the bus from work, its dark and cold and the perfect setting for me to be a nosy git, as I make my ten minute walk home from the stop.

I love to peep into people's warm, glowing, inviteing window's , into their kitchen's and living rooms and see what they are watching, eating and doing with their lives, (its usally the news or the xbox). Its something that I love about the walk home, a chance to secretly be a peeping passerby.

So sad but true.

Kill them with Kindness..

So I have spent today with a Paintbrush in one hand and a power tool in the other. Painting My Brother's Kitchen, with my laptop tuned into radio 2 to keep me company. I love Steve Wright's Golden Oldies. Back around again tomorrow for the 2nd coating. ( I love being able to be creative in helping my Brother with things).

I keep seeing on the telly, an advert for Delia Smith's Christmas Cake which Waitrose have made into an easy peesy pack, to make, and I really want to try and have a go, and i'm not even that much into christmas cake but it looks fun. I will probably end up giving it away to people.

And the picture above is from the 'You' Magazine you get from the sunday 'Daily Mail' and I just loved the illustration ( Delicatessen. www.delica.it ) and the article about people volunteering to have tea parties around their houses for old people to feel conected to society. ( www.dailymail.co.uk) .

Do what the top picture says ' kill them with kindness'.

Mellow Weekend.

Its the weekend so grab your favourite book, make a pot of tea , with some nice cakes on the side and enjoy it.
So the other day i was searching over my bookcase for something new to read and I came across a very old copy of Roald Dahl 'The BFG'.

I think I remeber reading it as a kid but becuase I devour books alot, its amazing how some books that are molded into my memorey are actually lots of books squished together.

Anyway, so I picked up the very scruffy book and started to read, and its been an absolute delight. Just finished it today on the bus and I am bit lost. I Love Roald Dahl's writing, his use of language and sheer playfullness with mixing up words. BFG and Sophie are legend's also, here's a few good quotes.

“I’m not sure I quite know what that means,” Sophie said.
“Meanings is not important,” said the BFG. “I can’t be right all the time. Quite often I is left instead of right.”

“You is welcome to go and search my cave from frack to bunt,” the BFG answered. “You can go looking into every crook and nanny. There is no human beans or stringy beans or runner beans or jelly beans or any other beans in there.”

“Your Majester,” he said. “I is your humbug servant…. Oh Queen! Oh Monarcher! Oh, Golden Sovereign! Oh, Ruler! Oh, Ruler of Straight Lines!”

Grab a copy if you never have experienced it and instantly become a child again, its great fun!!!

Dog walking Beauty.

So today was one of those days when, you take the dog a walk and the walk turns into something magical.

We have a lovely bit of country side 10 minutes from where I live, it's one of my happy places.

I realize I sound abit crazy saying that but I have 'happy places' but I do. There are places where I go and get instantly content and inspired.

One of these places is a bookshop, another is the fields where I live, (we are moving soon, so will have to find another field.) There is a stream that runs through it and its gorgeous, with wild grass and flowers and crazy trees that have been hit by lightning,

Today I was there and the sun was out and the birds were having a natter, and it was magnificent. So much so that I got out my camera to capture it, it felt like a bonus day of sunshine that God had given me to enjoy in the fields, as we are well into November and the last week has been rubbish weather.

But you can't capture a moment you just have to be thankful you had it.

Dont talk just swim.....

Amos 5:21-24 (The Message)

21-24"I can't stand your religious meetings.
I'm fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects,
your pretentious slogans and goals.
I'm sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I've had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
That's what I want. That's all I want.

This scripture is kicking my butt at the moment. When I was in Belfast the speaker Patrick Reagan, spoke it and it hit right at me. For those who dont really truely know me, I can get pretty passionate about Gods church sometimes, I can feel Gods heart for this world coming right through my chest. Other times I know its my just having a bitch. I have noticed that I have a natural ability to point the finger at all the things the rich organised western church is not doing.( God is helping me with this).

I am trying to balance loving his bride that I belong to but also not being afraid to put a firework under its ass to get it moving.

I also know that it needs to start with me, a guy speaking at our church on sunday said if you want to point the finger go stand in front of the mirror, (soo true for me).

So with that in mind this saturday night me and a few people are going to stop talking about what isn't done and just do it. God said he wants oceans of justice and rivers of fairness, I am gona do a dive into it, I want to swim in it, go underwater with my eyes open and invite people to do a big belly flop into it also.

Its about inviteing people who would never think of jumping in, the lady on the bus who smells abit, that person that really annoys you (I struggle here), the big issue seller (Tyrone you are a legend.).

God says he's sick of my conferences and meetings about it , well so am I, so bring your crazy inflatables.

Come take a swim with me.

Empty Bird Cages..

Lately I have been loving Bird cages, they look beautifull with candels in, all glowing and pretty, and even though I know they are just decorative. I think there is nothing as pretty as an empty Birdcage , it means what ever was forced to live inside the cage is now free.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and is tune is heard
on the distant hillfor the caged bird
sings of freedom

From the poem ' I know why the caged Bird Sings ' by Maya Angelou

Strange Projects..

Lately I have been doing new and really strange activities, from writing poetry on the bus to picking up conkers and other overlooked small items on the street floor. Am I starting to go a little loony you ask ? Nah mate.. Hopefully not.
At the moment I am reading a few books that are what I would call ' Daily Art project' books.
The books are intended to make you examine the world you live in through the every day events and objects and see the beauty everywhere. Currently I am reading ' life is a verb' by Patti Digh.. Is it working ? I guess so, its fun and I enjoy it.
Today's reading was about rembering you favourite childhood game, and writing about it, I havent finished the chapter yet, if it asks me to go and play my fave game, well that will be a laugh.
Go ahead Do something strange! I dare ya... its fun!

Autumn soul 2010. Northen Ireland..

So last weekend I was away at a weekend Christian event in Bangor Northern Ireland called Autumn Soul.

I was leading a Christian Art Workshop and on the prayer team as well, also did a few other bits here and there and I loved it. Got to have some serious sessions of praiseing God and got to pray loads. I went not really knowing what was going to happen but I am always falling in the deep end and letting God grow in me.

Also was nice to have time with the Belfast crew, staying at Miss Sweeney's house and to come out of Cov for a few days.

On the Sunday of the event, I was a grace-filled mess, crying through the whole day. I think I was more affected than the kids. Serously if these kids realize the love God has for them, alot of horrible years and experiences could be avoided..
At the end of the event on the sunday night, one of the last songs we all sung was a Matt redman song called 'undignified' and can't get it out of my head at the moment. It Portray's the vibe of the festival.
'i will dance i will sing to be mad for my king
nothing lord is hindering the passion in my soul

and ill become even more undignified than this
(some would say its foolishness )'

A Great time with our great God and some top class people.
